For £100, you can go on a track day at Donnington Park National Circuit. The weather was good and we arrived about 7:30 am. For the first hour or so we set up in the pit lane and received a driver briefing from the circuit staff. What you do is have half an hour on the track and then half an hour off the track. You get about 7 half hour runs during the day which for £100 is money well spent. They were runing a round of the GT chamionship there on the Sunday and all the teams had taken up the pit garages, so we had to settle for the pit lane.
After a few cautious laps behind a pace car, they let us loose. AWESOME, is the only way to discribe the circuit, allthough the touring cars reach speeds of upto 140 mph down Starkeys Straight, all that i was managing was about 110 mph. I nearly lost it exiting Redgate, but managed to snatch it back. McLeans was the best corner though, i was on two wheels nearly every time i went around, bouncing of the rumble strip. Kevin spun his 360 about 4 times throughout the day, and a collision was narrowly avoided at Goddards where he span in front of me. Looks very impressive on the video though.
I retired the car on the third run of the day, the engine just let go and the oil pressure dropped. The failure was down to bearing shells, which had just melted. So that was the end of the day for me, allthough i did have a blast around in Kevs 360, which is very tail happy even in a straight line.
